Cosmetology Apprenticeship License Requirements

Upon completion of signing up and pay the enrollment fee; students need to do the following:

Requirement #1

Attend 39 hours Pre-Apprenticeship training.

Requirement #2:

Must continue to attend 250 hours of Related Supplemental Instruction (RSI) - Classroom instruction of Practical during the 2 years.  Students are to learn state board techniques for

Cosmetology Practical Exam:

  1. Work Area and Client Preparation, and Set Up of Supplies (First client -15 minutes)
  2. Thermal Curling (10 minutes)
  3. Hair cutting (30 minutes)
  4. Work Area and New Client Preparation, and Set Up of Supplies (Second client - 15 minutes)
  5. Chemical Waving (20 minutes)
  6. Predisposition Test and Strand Test with Simulated Product (10 minutes)
  7. Highlighting with Foil, Virgin Application with Colored Simulated Product (15 minutes)
  8. Hair Color Retouch with Colored Simulated Product (10 minutes)
  9. Virgin Hair Relaxer Application with Colored Simulated Product (Untimed)
  10. Blood Exposure Procedure (10 minutes)
  11. Basic Facial (20 minutes)
  12. Sculptured Nail (20 minutes)


MOCK BOARD:
 At the end of the program, the apprentice will have the opportunity to practice taking the mock board of the practical exam to prepare for the State Board exam one month prior to the test date.

As part of the 250 hours of Related Supplemental Instruction (RSI) - Classroom instruction of Theory during the 2 years.  Students are to learn to have a good understanding and be ready to take the State Board Written Exam.

Requirement #4

On-the-job Training:
After the Apprentice License is issued, the apprentice needs to start working in the approved shop and with the trainer full-time for 32-40 hours a week over 2 years.  The trainer is to keep track of the student's hours and operations on the Cosmetology's OJT log sheet. 
This is one of the unique aspects of the apprenticeship program because our students can be making money while getting training on the job.
